Help for those in Debt!
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) works for and through the local church. St Andrew’s Church, with the help of other Churches across Darlington has setup a CAP Debt Centre.
There are many cases of financial difficulty in our town. County Durham Community Foundation (CDCF) reported that in 2017 over 20% of the Darlington population were classed as over-indebted, and the official statistics from the Money and Pensions Service 2019 Report highlights that there have been at least 100 cases of unmet demand for face-to-face advice over the last 12 month period.
A CAP Debt Centre offers face-to-face advice and support to make huge progress in roads into this.
While the project has a Christian ethos, the focus of the work is giving people practical support with getting out of debt, and will give support to anyone, regardless of religion, ethnicity or sexuality.
St.Andrew's CAP project will be working in partnership with a nationally recognized debt agency called CAP UK (Christians Against Poverty), which is often promoted by Martin Lewis on his TV shows for its effectiveness and practical help. People who access the service are helped to apply for appropriate benefits, assisted in creating a manageable payment plan, and supported on a personal level to achieve this.
More details about our official launch will be published in the local press and through our church website, so look out for them.
We’re delighted to have received grants from ‘Awards for All’ Community Fund (part of the National Lottery), the County Durham Community Foundation Community Grants Funding Programme, and individuals who want to help make a difference.
If you're in need because of debt we can help you.
