Prayer for the Summer
Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all
around me and for the opportunity to
be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I
have to be with my friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray no matter
where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of
Your presence and light my path with
Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me
a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
Amen
MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA
Please note the change of date!!
SATURDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 3PM-6PM

WHAT NEXT?
The Church Council is considering new ways of doing what the Office has done. And we now have a list of tasks that need to be taken on by volunteers. These include reception duties in the office, hall bookings and management, co-ordinating information, producing the weekly pew leaflet and many others! If you feel that you could assist in any way, please have a word with David, Sue or Sarah who would be delighted to hear from you.
Children & Young People
With the advent of the school holidays the regular children's work has a break until September.
A Leap of Faith!
Are you interested in supporting the work of Darlington Area Churches Youth Ministry (DACYM) in a fun and challenging
way? Why not join Melanie Stand (DACYM's Senior Youth Worker), Revd David Bryan, and others in a sponsored abseil down
St Andrew's Church Tower, Haughton, on Saturday 18th September. All raised funds will go towards the exciting work of
Darlington Area Churches Youth Ministry. DACYM will soon be an independent charity and the funds raised will help provide
a financial base from which to build from.
Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £60 (that's only 12 people sponsoring £5 each!). If you would like more
information or to sign up as a participant please speak to Emma Walden or contact Martin Stand on 07717336183.
Could you help us at ABC?
ABC (Adult & Toddler group) on Monday mornings and Wednesday early afternoons in term-time needs some practical help with e.g. serving refreshments, helping with craft activities and being welcoming.
If you are interested in finding out more or volunteering, please see Jane Teague (266242) or Sarah Wilkinson (463579).
GOOD NEWS about Christian Stewardship @St Andrew's
Our Stewardship Team met on Thursday night to review the impact of our Stewardship Campaign. The headlines are most encouraging:
-
50 members returned the Time & Talents, and the Finance papers
-
Some people have made important promises of support in various areas of the Church life, and these will be followed up soon
-
11 new people are giving either through the envelope scheme or by standing order
-
The projected income through planned giving will increase by about £2000 per year
So although more work is needed, the Team were upbeat. We found ourselves saying, 'Just imagine what we could do
for God's kingdom if a few more of us could get behind this campaign.'
With this in mind, Andy Teague, who is the Church's Local Giving Officer, will be getting in touch with some of you
in the next 6-8 weeks to ask if you feel you could help in some way.
We will also be recommending that the Church Council looks carefully at ways to make economies and savings so that our
financial resources go further. We support the proposal to find new ways to manage the Office and Church Hall without
paying a salary. And we would like to encourage more innovative ways to use the Hall.
Helen Kendrick (Treasurer), Andy Teague (Local Giving Officer), Alice Sewell, Nick Bassington and David Bryan.
Tea
and Praise
Situations Vacant
Tea and Praise at Oban Court on the second Sunday of the month is going very well. However we are sometimes in need of people with cars to offer lifts. We generally start at 3pm and end just before 5pm. If you could help please contact Sue Bruce 281567 or the church office 468142.
Transport to services
We are aware that people are concerned about transport to the new services, particularly the 9.00am, as buses do not run at that time.
We do not want anybody to feel that they cannot attend due to transport so we are developing a list of volunteers
with cars who will commit to offering regular lifts to people from around the parish.
If you can offer a lift, please sign the list at the back.
If you need a lift, please sign the list at the back of the church.
